What are Templates?
Web Templates specify a unique page layout by determining
where graphics and text are positioned on the page by using tables and themes.
Most templates incorporate a matching theme (navigation bars, etc.), but have
a pre-defined areas where you may add your own text and additional images.
Your template comes with a specific number of pre-designed pages which have
been named and incorporated into the navigation structure. It is then up to
you to rename the pages to meet the needs of your web site and add your own
content, adding and deleting pages as necessary.
Each web template has been designed so that a wide variety of styles and
subject matter to give your new site a professional look.
To use a web template on your current web site, you will need
to make a NEW web site using the web template you purchased. You then copy and
paste your text and images from your old site into the pages of your new web
site. You then publish your new web site with the new design over your current
web site.
What are themes?
Microsoft FrontPage® comes with several themes
preinstalled. While these themes are nice, you soon get a canned look,
meaning your web site can look like other sites that are using the same
theme that came with FrontPage.
Themes are a collection of graphic elements which define the look of
navigation buttons, page banners, fonts, font colors, styles, horizontal
rules, bullets, and a few other features.
Within FrontPage, by going to Format | Theme, you can select a new look
for your pages by selecting a new theme.
Graphic designers have created visually exciting themes which you can
purchase and add to your collection. Each theme is unique with
coordinating graphics and colors. Once applied, your site will have new
buttons, banner and background.
